Summer: Runner up in the 2025 Artemesia Poetry Competition, with the poem 'Like My Father'.

Summer: The poem 'Mallory's Ice Axe' has won third prize in the Slipstream competition.
His poem 'The City of Risk-takers' was commended in the Southdown Poetry Festival Binsted Prize 2025.
Derek's poems 'A History according to Dog' and 'Norfolk, 21st August 1968' were shortlisted for the Arts Richmond Roger McGough prize 2025.
The poem 'Norfolk, 21st August 1968' was highly commended in the Edward Thomas Fellowship Prize 2025.
Derek's poem 'Hiromi Uehara, Jazz Pianist' was included in the Poetry Worth Hearing podcast number 29.
